Obituary For Scott William O'Neal

Scott passed away unexpectedly from an undiagnosed heart problem on July 15, 2014 in South San Francisco.

Scott, 51, was born on March 26, 1963. He was raised in Fremont, California and graduated from Washington High School in 1981.

After 2 years at Ohlone College, he entered the Coast Guard and served as an electronic technician. He was stationed in Washington DC, New Jersey, Alaska, and California.

After his 6 year enlistment ended, Scott became a sous chef and worked at various restaurants. Following this, he returned to his love in life – building. If you gave him wood, nails and a hammer he was the happiest. As a child, if you asked him what he was building he would say “A Thing.” He proudly joined The Carpenter's Union , where he worked for the past 15 years. He also worked along side his best friend Greg, and his moving company.

Scott was funny, kind, generous and very loyal. He was a jokester and could always bring a smile to your face. He was always willing to jump in and help out without being asked and there was nothing that he wouldn't do for you. He loved to tinker and was always working on a project. He also was a perfectionist when he was making something – if Scott was putting his name on it – it was going to be perfect.

In his younger years, Scott loved to rock climb, bike, and play broom ball. He loved to cook – he made the most amazing garlic mashed potatoes which we will miss.

Scott is survived by his parents Billy and Kathleen; sisters: Nancy O'Neal and Merry Shipman: nephew Zachary Helmick and his niece Mikayla Shipman, which he referred to as “Goofy.” He is also survived by a great niece Madison Noel. Scott also leaves behind his best friend of 46 years – Greg Holguin.

Any donations can be made in Scott's memory to Habitat for Humanity (https://give.habitatebsv.org/) or the SPCA (https://eastbayspca.org/tribute). He had a very soft spot in his heart for animals.

Viewing will be held on Saturday, July 26, from 1-2pm and a Chapel Service will begin at 2pm at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Reception to follow at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at a private committal service at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.

Even though I haven't seen or spoken to you in forever, you will forever speak to me. He was part of the inner circle when I was growing up. I just wish we could have talked one more time. Till we meet again my friend. Ken (Smith) McCown

My deepest condolences sent to the whole family! I send love and prayers and strength. He and the family have always treated me as family...and there are many memories that I could post because our families were so close. My mom still giggles about how he called her the lady next door...hehehe 😉 love you all! Marcella (Bledsoe) Viera

This is not the kind of news I ever expected to hear. I just found out last weekend that Scotty had passed away from a sudden heart attack! Diane and I, are going to miss your visits here, whenever you were in town. Just can't believe it. I wish I knew sooner so we could have attended your memorial. Love you, Scotty, and maybe you could reserve a nice spot for me in heaven (if I make it in). Love, Frank and Diane Salvatore

My deepest sympathies to Aunt Kay, Uncle Bill, Nancy, Merry, Mikayla and Zach at the loss of Scott. Even though I had not seen him for several years, I still have good memories of growing up and being at Grandma and Grandpa Moore's place and visiting you out in Freemont. My heart is with the whole family at this time. I remember him as being very quiet, but always so polite and thoughtful and will miss him. Love, Kelly Moore
