On Tuesday, January 21, 2014 Heaven gained a mighty Angel. Ronald Charles Joseph Nelson II at the young age of 43 died in his Pleasanton home surrounded by his family. Ron was a remarkable husband, an unbelievable father, and a most caring and giving son and brother. Ron cared about everyone he ever met and all who met him learned something valuable. Ron was a Financial Advisor for Morgan Stanley for 17 years and in that time grew great respect and many friendships. Ron battled Mesothelioma for almost 2 years and left us all too soon. Ron is survived by his Wife Joanna Nelson, Son Torin Nelson (16), and Daughter Madison Nelson (13) of Pleasanton, his Father Ronald Nelson Sr. of Alameda, and his Mother Linda Vasquez of Sanger. Ronald has a brother Anthony Vasquez of Fresno, and Step-Brother Jimmy Vasquez of Union City, and Step-Sister Della Estrada and Uncle to Alex Estrada of Union City. Ron also has 4 nieces Kiana Miller and Kalia Miller of Stockton, Alexis and Natalie Vasquez of Sanger, and Nephew Nikco Miller of Manteca, and Aunts Celia Moya of Sanger, Stella Ureno of Ceres, Sara Ramirez of Sanger and Uncle Manuel Salazar of Fresno along with many cousins from the Sanger area. Ron also has Aunt Debra Morris Nelson of Kansas and Randall Sanchez of San Leandro, Aunt Roberta Nava of Oakland and Cousin Sherry Delarosa. Ron was an amazing man who cared about our youth. He coached baseball and football in Fremont for 20 years and only quit due to his illness. Ron was a giving person and he always went out of his way to make someone happy. Through his battle these last couple of years it has made all of us who know him and love him so much stronger. Ron has a multitude of family and friends who adore him. Ron touched so many lives with his positive outlook and glorious smile. Whenever there was a problem Ron would fix it, whenever someone was in trouble Ron would fix it, and whenever someone just needed a friend or confidant Ron would be there. Ron battled this illness like no other. His strength and outlook on life in general was amazing. Ron Nelson thank you for your inspiration and wise words you will never be forgotten.

I was so sorry to see in the Manteca Bulletin that Ron had died. When I looked at the obituaries the first thing I thought was what a handsome man and then after beginning to read I saw that it was Ron. He was my husband's, James V. Morelli's, great nephew. I had such sweet memories of him. He was always such a sweetheart. My heart goes out to his Dad and the rest of the family. My prayers for his soul and may all your memories of Ron bring you comfort. With love and prayers.........Betty Morelli

I can remember years of being dragged around by my dad to sit through another baseball practice or game for you all. Though I hated it, I got to meet a lot of great people like you. I am awed by your positivity and strength through all of this, and I am so happy we had a chance to reconnect at our reunion in July. You will be missed!

I will always remember Ronald Nelson as Coach Ron.
He was my football coach for 3 years when I played in Fremont, Ca for the Fremont Raiders and his love of the game is what sparked my passion to play.
Even after I had moved on Coach Ron would always check in with me to make sure I was doing alright and staying out of trouble, and he was even there for my college graduation.
He will always hold a special place in my heart, because he took an interest in me when he didn't have to.
He was a good man who truly touched my life for the better, and he will be missed.

Ron is my dad. From the first time I found out my dad had cancer he told me in the car. My mom And my brother already knew. After all the shock I was in.. I slowly hid my self under that blanket. I cried. Once we got home I tried to forget about it. I didn't really think it was true. My dad always looked so healthy. I thought all of that stuff was done when my dad had heart surgery. But sadly it wasn't. Ever since Tuesday;the day he passed.. I'm been so upset that he is actually gone. It didn't seem real. I've had so much support with family and friends.Daddy I just want to say I love you. I miss you. I will see you In heaven. Have a great birthday next month. I love you daddy. Dance with some angels for me

Even though we went to AHS together and I always knew who he was, it was only in this last year that Ron and I got to be friends. In just that short time, I was blown away by his courage, positive outlook and generous spirit. I was so glad I got to tell him at our reunion last summer what a gift and inspiration his words had been to me. The impact he had on all who knew him, whether it was since childhood or more recently, will have a profound and lasting effect for years to come. It's because of people like Ron that I remember to hug my children a little tighter each day and to take in every moment completely.

Some of my earliest memories is of spending time with Ron and Joanna when I was a little girl. Although we have since grown up and moved in our own directions I have always kept them close to my heart. He helped build such a beautiful family that have so many amazing memories of him to keep him alive always. RIP Ron, and God bless your family
