Obituary For Paula Galvan Orozco

On July 29th, 2018 Paula joined the Lord with her loving sons and family by her side at Fremont Hills residential facility. She battled dementia, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's disease for many years but was very strong throughout.

Paula was born on June 30th, 1930 in San Bernardino, CA to Francisco “Poncho” and Julia Galvan, and was raised on the family ranch in Warm Springs, CA. She graduated in 1949 from Washington Union High School in Centerville, CA. She excelled in sports such as basketball, field hockey, and softball. Upon graduation she worked at the Rosicrucian Order, AMOC in San Jose as a typist. In 1950 she married Gilbert Portillo Orozco and they raised four sons (Larry, Gilbert, James, and Jeff) together in Union City, CA. Paula worked for 5 years at Dr. Lee’s Medical Clinic in Decoto, CA assisting with the delivery of new born babies. She continued her career as a medical assistant and retired from Bay Valley Medical Group (Hayward) after 28 years.

Paula loved to help everyone—family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers. She was a beautiful and very giving person. She cherished her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchild and was real proud of them all. Throughout the years she attended little league baseball, basketball, football, softball, soccer, and track sporting events cheering on and supporting her family. Attending extracurricular activities and special life events as well.

Paula enjoyed bus trips to Reno, Lake Tahoe, Laughlin, and Las Vegas. Trips to her dad’s ranch in Orland, CA, family vacations, and visiting relatives as well. Also excursions to Carmel, Monterey, and Half Moon Bay with sons and daughters-in-law. She looked forward to family gatherings, barbecues, birthdays, picnics, and holidays.

She loved music and was always ready to dance. A favorite past time of hers was yard sales. She was a great bargain hunter and a true picker. Going to all of the special events at the Ruggieri Senior Center and selling at the craft faires was quite memorable. Her favorite teams were the Golden State Warriors, San Francisco Giants, and James Logan Colts.

Survived by her sons: Larry, James (Debbie), and Jeff (Susie); grandchildren: Jennifer (Amit), Anthony, Danielle, Katie, Jeffrey Jr., Lauren, Thomas, and Matthew; and great grandson Angel Jr. Also survived by her sister Jessie Gutierrez, brother Marcus Galvan, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by her husband Gilbert P. Orozco on March 26th, 2018 and son Gilbert D. Orozco on January 9th, 2018. Also preceded in death by her father Francisco, mother Julia, and siblings: Florencio, Benito, Manuel, Feliciano, Joe, Salvador, Francisco Jr., and Caroline.

The family would like to thank the Fremont Hills staff, Kaiser Fremont, and Kaiser Hospice for their care and support, as well as her loving caregivers.

Dear Larry and the entire Orozco Family. When we were kids, growing up in Decoto or growing up in Niles, our parents and their generation sacrificed many things. They tried to give us everything that was needed for us to become responsible adults. As adults, it was now our turn to sacrifice and to give our parents everything they needed. Your mom Paula and our mom Shirley shared the loving comfort of family and friends in their final days at the Fremont Hills. Our condolences and sympathy to you and to the entire Orozco family in the loss of your mom Paula. Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia siempre. Leonard Martinez & Family
