Obituary For Ofelia B. Martinez
On August 1, 2022, Ofelia peacefully passed away in the comfortable surroundings of her home after a long-fought battle with cancer in the presence of: her youngest son, Mario; her daughter, Stella (Di Tullio); and her son-in-law, Antonio Di Tullio. Ofelia now joins her husband, Salvador Rosario Martinez Jr. (July 20, 1934 – July 21, 1982) and their eldest son, Salvador Ricardo Martinez III (March 3, 1967 – October 6, 2022) in eternal rest. Ofelia is also survived by a large number of nieces and nephews, and by her sisters: Gloria Marias of San Francisco, CA; Esperanza Eugenio of Concord, CA; and Anita Garcia of Rancho Cordova, CA. She is also preceded in death by her other siblings: Eduardo Bernal, Teresita del Rosario, and Leticia Calderon.
Born in San Roque in the province of Cavite in the Philippines to Fulgencio and Socorro (Vinerao), her father’s U.S. Navy military service eventually brought her family to Northern California’s San Francisco Bay Area. She arrived in San Francisco as a teenager and graduated from Galileo High School. She briefly attended San Francisco City College, the embarked on a much-loved career as a Civil Servant Secretary with the U.S. Army at Fort Mason in San Francisco. The in 1965, Ofelia married Salvador and together raised a family of three children. His U.S. Navy military service allowed them to call the cities of San Francisco, San Diego, Concord, and eventually Fremont, home. She will always be remembered for her passion for piano playing, sewing, browsing for bargains at second-hand stores, and her flair for cooking, especially the many Filipino comfort-food dishes that family and friends always happily devoured.
The family of Ofelia wishes to express their sincerest appreciation, thanks and admiration to family and friends who have expressed their love, care and concern for her and us throughout Mom’s journey during these latter years of life. We are also appreciative of the kindness and professional care provided by the homecare workers, nurses, social worker, chaplain and staff of Suncrest Hospice. We are grateful that they helped allow us to support Mom at home for as long as possible. We will always remember how their compassionate palliative care enabled her to achieve a sense of peace and dignity that she had earned and wholeheartedly deserved.
