Obituaries

Norma Jean Freitas, 92, of Newark died Saturday, December 22, 2018. She was born to the late Joseph and Alicia Santos, October 9, 1926, in Warm Springs, CA.

She graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and married John Albert Freitas in October of the same year. She worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service in Newark for more than 30 years. She resided in Newark for most of her life. Norma was a member of the SPRSI Council # 79/2 and PFSA Counsel # 17.

She was a parishioner of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Newark. After retiring, Norma traveled the world with her husband, John. Her favorite countries were Italy and France. She enjoyed attending Broadway productions in San Francisco.

Norma loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Norma was preceded by her husband, John, in 2014 after 67 years of marriage. She greatly missed John and all her friends and family that had gone before her. She was an outgoing person and had a keen sense of humor.

She will be remembered for her devotion and love for all her grandchildren. Norma is survived by her children: Jeff (Yvonne) Freitas, Joan (Glenn) Fedirko; her grandchildren: Sarah, Heather, Greg, Danny, and Jenya; her great-grandchildren: Taryn and Conner; sister: Marjorie Scott, and brothers: Edward and Stanley Santos.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 6th, 12:00 - 1:00 PM with a Chapel Service starting at 1:00 PM at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Burial will be private. Donations may be made in memory of Norma Jean to Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, 43326 Mission Circle, Fremont, CA 94539.
