Obituary For Mary O. DeLucchi

Mary O. DeLucchi, age 89 died peacefully in her sleep, at her home in the Niles District of Fremont on December 30, 2012.

She was born Mary O. McNeil on December 15, 1923 in San Francisco three months after her father, Henry J. McNeil died. She grew up in San Francisco with her mother, Mary Anna (nee: Cattich) and her step-father John J. Tarabochia, who adopted her. The Tarabochia family subsequently moved to Oakland, where she graduated from St Elizabeth High School.

Mary met her future husband Ray while she was visiting cousins in Chico. Mary and Ray were married at St Louis Bertrand?s Catholic Church in Oakland on March 11, 1944. During WWII she worked for William Randolph Hearst?s Post Enquirer in Oakland.

After the war, the couple bought their first home in Ashland. As a true matriarch, Mary partnered with her husband Ray in the family business, originally DeLucchi Well Boring Company. The company became DeLucchi Well & Pump Company after they moved to Hayward where they lived from 1951 to 1968, when they moved to Niles. After their retirement Mary and Ray moved to Phoenix Arizona in 1991. Here they built their dream home. The inseparable couple was fondly known by family and friends as ?Doc & Doc?.

Mary and Ray DeLucchi were the owners of Rancho Arroyo De La Alameda from 1979 to 2002. The ranch encompassed much of the hill property from Hayward through Union City to Fremont. They were instrumental in a major renovation of the giant Niles sign that is still seen on the hill-face above the vintage village.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon DeLucchi and her son, Anthony (Tony) DeLucchi.

She is survived by her sons John DeLucchi and his wife Shirley; Steven DeLucchi and his wife Bobbie Reid; Christopher DeLucchi and his wife Jeanne; Peter DeLucchi and his wife Jamie and daughter Tina DeLucchi and her husband Ray Houghton.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Dolores Loll, Paul DeLucchi, Danielle Wright, Michael DeLucchi, Sean Crawford, Kira Crawford and great-granddaughters Avery Loll and Natalie DeLucchi.

Mary?s brother Henry Tarabochia and his wife Mary; step-brother John Tara; sister Thelma Gianunzio and her husband Jerry; and sister-in-law Lillian Reininger and her husband Alvin survive her as well.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mary DeLucchi will be held on Saturday, February 2, 11a.m. at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Reverend Ken Daigle of Fremont Unity Church in Niles will lead the invocation.

I am sympathetic to the loss of Your Mother and Grandmother Mary. She was a sweet lady who raised a fine family. Her legacy will live on for many generations to come through all your life blood. We now have another sweet Guardian Angel who lives on in her new life with Jesus and all those that have gone heavenly before her. We are extending sweet thoughts and prayers to you and know that fond memories of Mary will help sustain all of the Delucchi family at this time. We will be attending the service on the 2nd.
