Obituary For Mary Avila Mello
Mary Avila Mello passed away peacefully on December 31, 2017 in Fremont surrounded by her immediate family. Born in Tulare, California to John Avila & Virginia Rodrigues Avila, Mary went to John Swett High School, in Crockett, California where she graduated in 1943.
Mary moved to Rodeo with her parents in 1934, where she grew up with all of her loving family, cousins, aunts and uncles. She then met the love of her life, Melvin Mello, at the Newark Portuguese Pavilion in 1943. Following Melvin's return from WW2, they married on September 14, 1947.
Mary was a dedicated, hard worker. She had a successful career as the head bookkeeper for Bank of America and Dr. Guy Romito, and finished up her career as senior clerk for the City of Fremont.
Beyond spending time with her family, Mary loved dancing, traveling with her husband to Hawaii and the Azores. Mary also loved her Bay Area sports teams.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Melvin Mello; her 2 children, Gary J. Mello (Glenna) and Gail Mello-Wagner; her 3 grandchildren, Ryan Alter (Ruby), John Mello and Jennifer Mello (Mitchell); 2 great grandchildren, Jackson Alter and Jessa Alter.
