Maria Mercado, born December 6, 1948, in Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, Mexico, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, at the age of 77 in Union City, California. Maria's life was a testament to her deep faith, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.

Maria was a devoted Catholic, whose life was enriched by her love for gardening, crafts, and charitable work. She believed in the power of nurturing both plants and people, finding joy in the simple beauty of her garden and the smiles of the children she helped through various charities. Her compassion and creativity knew no bounds, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew and loved her.

Maria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lorenzo Mercado; her father, Julian Padilla; her mother, Magdalena Padilla; and her brother, Sergio Padilla. She is survived by her sons, Fernando Mercado and Eduardo Mercado, who carry forward her legacy of love and kindness. Maria is also survived by her siblings, Julian Padilla, Arturo Padilla, Margarita Moreno (Padilla), Salvador Padilla, Mercedes Day (Padilla), and Lourdes Martinez (Padilla), who will forever cherish her memory.

Maria's life will be celebrated with a visitation and rosary on April 29, from 4 to 8 PM at Fremont Memorial Chapel in Fremont, CA. The funeral service will be held on April 30, at 1 PM at Our Lady of The Rosary Church in Union City, CA. Internment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA at 2:30pm. All family and friends are invited to join in honoring her life and legacy.
