Obituary For Mala Mailo

Mala Mailo of Leone, American Samoa passed the way she always wanted to. She never wanted to see her family struggling to let her go. Mala passed peacefully resting in her sleep at the age of 85 in her daughter’s home on March 30th in Fremont, CA. She spent her last days being cared for by her daughter Aunoa, her son-in-law Wes and youngest son Fili Jr. in their home.

Mala was born in American Samoa to Molio’o and Fiva on September 15, 1936. She was a widow to Fili Leao Mailo and a supermom to 9 kids; Foai, Mala, Soisoi Jr, Penina, Nuuuli, Aunoa, Laloifi, Ofisa, and Fili Jr.

Mala was a devout Seventh-day Adventist and placed God above all else. She spent her life sharing the gospel of God’s love with anyone and everyone. Mala had 9 children but had so many other children she took into her home and cared for. She had a heart of gold and was always more than willing to assist anyone in need. Mala migrated to California in the 1970s to provide better opportunities for her children. She moved to a new country not knowing the language but had faith that could move mountains. She worked incredibly hard as a single Mom to ensure her children would have the privileges and advantages she never had. Even with all the odds stacked against her, she made it possible for her children. But, she truly believed that the impossible was always possible through Christ. Mala devoted her life to God and her family. She taught her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the importance of having a personal relationship with God and putting family first.

She is preceded in death by her Husband Fili Leao Mailo and 3 daughters Foai, Penina, and Nuuuli.

Mala is survived by her remaining children Soisoi Jr, Mala, Aunoa, Laloifi, Ofisa, and Fili Jr, her 27 grandchildren & 19 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 18, 9am at the Hayward SDA Church, 26400 Gading Rd., Hayward, CA, followed by a burial at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park in Hayward. A reception will be held at the Doubletree. Mala Mailo’s family wishes to extend our sincerest gratitude to all those who helped in her care. Our Mama will be dearly missed and we will continue to celebrate her life until we meet again in Christ. May she rest peacefully until our Heavenly reunion, long live our Queen Mala Mailo.
