Lillian Betty Giovacchini Dawson passed away at the age of 94 in the comfort of her Fremont home, where she had lived for 61 years. In her final moments, Lillian said that she wanted to rest, closed her eyes, and peacefully entered God’s hands. By her side were her loving daughter, Kathleen Krueger, and grandsons, Zachariah and Josiah Amen.

Lillian was born at Dameron Hospital in Stockton, California, to the late Narciso and Regina Giovacchini. She is now reunited in heaven with Louis R. Dawson, her beloved husband of 65 years; her daughter, Christine Dawson Amen; and other friends and family who passed before her.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Krueger and Susan Hobbs; her son, Andrew Dawson; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A resident of Fremont for 68 years, Lillian devoted her life to raising her four children and caring for her family. After her children were grown, she worked as a retail clerk at White Front and later at Gemco, where she remained until the stores closed.

For 38 years, Lillian was a valued volunteer with the Washington Hospital Service League, contributing 8,531 hours of service. She made newborn hats from handkerchiefs, created felt puppets, and helped make quilts. She enthusiastically dressed the Service League’s large cow, Pinkie Moo, for holidays and special occasions. At Christmastime, she created a display in the hospital lobby of handmade felt ornaments arranged in the shape of a Christmas tree, with each ornament featuring a photograph of a volunteer.

Lillian will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her creativity, her generous spirit, and the countless hours she spent helping others. Her life was filled with love and service, and her memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew her and will miss her dearly.
