Kathleen D. Castle was born in San Francisco, California on April 30, 1942 to Bertram and Martha Shaughnessy. A devout Catholic, she completed much of her schooling in Catholic schools, graduating from Mercy High School in 1960. She went on to study at San Francisco State University where she received her Bachelors of Arts in Education in 1964. She was a proud sister of the Kappa Theta Sorority. She met Donald Castle and they married in 1965. She became an elementary educator at Sherman Elementary in San Francisco and inspired all of her students every day..In 1969 her daughter, Lauren Castle, came into the Castle’s lives followed by her son, Mark Castle, in 1972. When her son Mark married Tricia Castle, Kathleen welcomed Andrew Castle, her grandson, into her life on July 3, 2012

Kathleen was preceded by her loving parents Bertram and Martha Shaughnessy as well as her beloved husband, Donald Castle. She is survived by her son Mark Castle, his wife Tricia Castle, and her grandson Andrew Castle, as well as her daughter Lauren Castle. She is survived by her sisters Sharon Soto and Susan Rivera and her brother Michael Shaughnessy, as well as her much older brother inlaw Ronald RiveraShe is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews, her cousins, and extended family. She is also survived by her sorority sisters as well as her many loving friends.

Kathleen was a dedicated educator who loved to teach not only primary students but adult English learners and created lifetime bonds with her students. She was an avid reader and loved taking long walks in her neighborhood. She loved playing games with family and friends and was practically undefeated at Rummikub. She loved spending time with her grandson and favorite person, Andrew. She loved her lunches with her sorority sisters, and never missed an opportunity to laugh and talk for hours with beloved siblings. For every person that shared a moment with her, she has left an indelible mark on their heart.
