Obituary For Jose Tajonera Bautista

On Friday morning May 27th, 2016 Jose Tajonera Bautista succumbed to cardiac arrest at Washington Hospital in Fremont. He was 71.

Jose and his wife Cynthia have been married for almost 46 years. Jose is survived by his wife Cynthia, three daughters and their families: Christina Bautista Mangonon, her husband Edward Mangonon, their children Andrew, Joseph and Gabriella; Cecilia Bautista-Sablan, her husband Joseph Sablan, and their son, Jalen and stepson James; Claudine Bautista Powery; her husband Leslie Powery, and their children, Lena and Laila. He also left behind his siblings: Adelaida Bautista and Avelina Dizon, her husband Alexander Dizon, many nephews, nieces in the Philippines, Canada and Dubai, and many friends.

Jose Bautista was born in Balanga, Bataan on December 1, 1944. He immigrated to San Francisco, CA from the Philippines in 1969 with only $300 in his pocket. He worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco from where he took a special retirement after 10 years as a Credit Analyst. He worked in real estate and later became a financial advisor for many years.

For 27 years he was active in the San Francisco Filipino Cursillo Movement, and served at the first Filipino Cursillo men’s weekends in Oakland and San Jose. He was a past Lay Director of the San Francisco Filipino Cursillo. In 1999, Jose and Cynthia joined the Couples for Christ Movement, where they currently serve as Oakland Diocese CFC Cluster Coordinators for ANCOP (Answering the Cry of the Poor). He and his wife were members of the Holy Spirit Filipino Society for many years. For a couple of years, they both served as Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick and took their young daughters every Sunday to pray with and give communion to the Catholic Residents of Parkmont Rehab Center. Up to just before his death, he was an active Eucharistic Minister for Holy Spirit Church in Fremont. Jose was also a member of the Dawnbreaker Lions Club.

Mr. Bautista will always be remembered for his big smile and warm heart. He enjoyed watching Bay Area team sports including the 49ers, Giants, and Warriors. He loved the outdoors like being by the beach or simply sitting under his fruit trees. He was a sushi connoisseur and could tell a good sushi from a bad one. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren sing, dance, play a musical instrument, play basketball or cheer. He was a man of deep faith and attended mass almost every day even when they were traveling.
