Obituary For Jose Evasco Manucal

Papa Joe died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thanksgiving Day. We, his family, give thanks for 88 years of a beautiful life devoted to his wife of 64 years, Jovita, his five children, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. We love and will miss Papa Joe dearly. Special thanks to the compassionate medical professionals at Washington Hospital where Papa passed with dignity and great care after a long illness. Papa Joe was born in the Philippines and loved his adopted country serving 20 years in the U.S. Navy. In his youth Papa was a boxer and his fighting spirit was evident as he fought the good fight of faith to the very end. After retiring from his second career as owner of the Lido Barber Shop in Newark, Papa Joe enjoyed playing competitive tennis well into his 70’s, visiting with friends at the Newark Senior Center, supporting numerous charities, and attending church faithfully. His friends, neighbors, and family will miss Papa’s kindness, generosity, and grateful spirit. Papa Joe loved our Lord Jesus Christ and was truly transformed by grace. Rest in peace dear Papa until we meet again in heaven. Friends and family are invited to say farewell for now at the viewing on Friday, December 5, 2014, 4 pm to 8 pm at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd. in Fremont. The Funeral Service will be held at Living Hope Church, 7160 Graham Avenue in Newark on Saturday, December 6, at 9:30 am with burial to follow at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.

Joe, You will be dearly missed by many. I thank you so much for being such a good friend to my father. I still remember you cutting my hair as a boy and the many times you came to our tennis tournaments and family functions. You always had a smile upon your face that would light up the room. Thank you for being a part of our lives. Al Lola & Family
