Obituary For Joe B. Lerma
Joe B. Lerma, born on March 20, 1944, in Mathis, San Patricio County, Texas, passed away on August 13, 2026.
Joe was the oldest surviving child of Benito and Juanita Lerma’s eleven children.
Joe proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran. He attained the rank of Corporal (E-4) and was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps Reserve on November 18, 1970. His discharge correspondence recognized his honorable service and his proficient and industrious performance of duty. Joe later retired from the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
Joe worked for the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) as a water treatment plant operator until his retirement.
Joe was an avid reader who enjoyed spending time with books. He also had a teasing sense of humor and especially enjoyed giving his daughters a hard time. Above all, Joe was deeply proud of his grandchildren and took great joy in watching them grow.
Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beatriz L. Lerma; his daughters, Janice Fleming and Pauline Dubin; his grandchildren, Julia Cross, Jessica Novak, Joseph Fleming, and Sierra Dubin; and his great-granddaughter, Kira.
He is also survived by his brothers, Robert, Ruben, and Jesse, and his sister, Irma.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Benito and Juanita; his sisters, Manwella and Eva; and his brothers, Armando, Benito Jr., Samuel, and Juanito.
