Obituary For Janet Louise Drews

Janet Louise Drews of Newark, CA, entered her eternal rest on Saturday, January 24, 2015, being received into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ after a long stay at Washington Hospital. A Victory Service will be held on Friday, January 30th, at 12 p.m. at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.

Born in Buffalo, NY on March 9, 1956, Janet was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.

She attended Sunnyvale public schools, graduating from Immanuel Lutheran High School in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She furthered her education at Foothill College, College of Notre Dame, and UC-Davis, earning a Bachelor of Science degree.

Janet’s family members include her loving parents Donald and Ida Drews, brother John Drews, sisters Barbara and her husband Mark Gullerud, and Mary and her husband Ron Ryan. Her nieces and nephews are: Kirsten, Joel, Aaron and Shannon, Daniel and Angela Gullerud, Danielle and Randy Wittorp, and Emily and Brian Schlegelmilch. She will also be lovingly remembered by her aunt Marlis, cousins Mark, Elizabeth, Mary Jane, Kurt, Ann, Carol, Joel, Lynn, Leslie, Keith, and their families. Many Tri-City friends, neighbors, colleagues, and associates touched her life.

Everyone knew Janet deeply loved her pets: Heidi, Pepi, Sheba, Sadie, Katie, Patches, and Thistle.

Janet embraced the community of Newark where she lived, worked, and volunteered in numerous organizations. Her contributions to the Tri-City was her way of using her God-given gifts for the service of others.

Janet’s Tri-City involvement gave her much satisfaction and joy. She was known for her complex spread sheets, perfectionism, diversity of occupations and skills, her energy, enthusiasm, and compassion for those in need. She crocheted blankets for terminally ill babies and hats for sick children and adults.

Janet’s first contribution began as a volunteer Administrative Coordinator for the newly organized Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Her volunteer contributions included Neward Rotary, Graffiti Abatement, Newark Planning Commission, Newark Chamber of Commerce, Newark Library League, Viola Blythe Community Service Center, Neward Education Foundation, and Touchstone for disabled children. Janet’s leadership skills enabled her to serve as President, Chairman, and Ambassador of these organizations while remaining humble and gracious.

As an animal health technician, Janet worked alongside a Veterinarian. She also worked at a Pharmaceutical Company for 15 years in the Pathology/Toxicology Department. Janet co-owned Acorn Training Group where she taught Microsoft Office classes to Newark’s fire and police departments. Most recently, Janet was employed as a Metrics Analyst at Morpho Detection, Inc. located in Newark. Janet kept her health issues private while continuing a very active public and professional life.

Washington Hospital gave Janet excellent care. Her family would especially like to thank Dr. Reddy, Dr. Sadiq, and Dr. Kumaravalli, all other doctors, nurses, and staff for their compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Viola Blythe organization in Newark (www.violablythe.org), the Humane Society (www.humanesociety.org), American Heart Association (www.heart.org), Newark Community Emergency Response Team (www.newarkcert.org), or Newark Rotary (www.newarkrotary.org).

God gave Janet some very extraordinary gifts, enabling her to serve the Newark community, its businesses, and residents she loved.

“Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Revelation 2:10

We were very lucky to have met Janet, and her Family on January 23rd at the hospital. Becky was Janet's room mate, and she was just told she was being released from the hospital. Even though we only knew Janet for a few hours, we felt as though we knew Janet, her Mom, and her sister for much longer. We bonded with the family immediately. We were truly blessed that even though we had really just met, we could see all the love around Janet. Rest with the Angels Janet, and we will all meet again someday. Becky Camara, Eileen Noonan,& Paulette Wardrip

I had the pleasure of knowing Janet both at work at Morpho Detection and through both of our involvement in the community. Janet was always very thoughful and wanted to help anyway she can. She regularly told me about things going on around town that my young son might be interested in. When I organized the Newark Days Kids' Parade for several years, I realized what an impact Janet has had in the city of Newark through all her community involvement and asked Janet to be one of my Kids Parade judges along with other prominent members of the community. I continued to call on her to be one of my judges for the remainder of my time organizing the Kids Parade. The one thing Janet always said to me at work even 5-6 years after that last Kids Parade was "I loved being a judge for the Kids Parade! I miss it so much!" Janet, You will be missed as well! Rest in peace!
