Obituaries

James William Thurgate was born on November 3, 1926 in Denver, CO and entered into rest on March 11, 2015 in Fremont, CA at the age of 88. He is survived by his children: Tim (his wife Kim), Nannette, and Ted (his wife Maura); and grandchildren: Kathleen, Brian, Connor, Kayla and Nevan. He was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann in 2005.

Jim served in the US Navy during WWII. He worked for General Motors for 32 years as an engineer where he invented a system for painting the cars on the assembly line. He was a member of the Dawn Breakers Lions Club of Fremont for many years and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Fremont Fire Rehab.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 22, 3pm at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lion's Foundation of your choice. Inurnment at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA.
