Obituary For Helen May Hursey
Helen May Hursey passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sept. 4, 2013.
Helen was born in Selah, WA to Gertrude & Byron Von Shepherd. She graduated from Selah High School in 1938.
In 1943 she flew to Alaska where she married her high school sweetheart, Glenn. During their life together they raised 4 children and designed & built most of the homes they lived in. In retirement they enjoyed tours and cruises to many foreign countries and visited historic sites and parks in the US.
Helen was an active member of Centerville Presbyterian Church for 53 years. She especially enjoyed volunteering at 'Centerville Free Dining'.
Survivors include: her 4 children, Linda (Jim) McHenry, Joan (Tom) Moore, Scott (Julie) Hursey, Steve (Patty) Hursey; her brother Preston Shepherd and sister Gloria Lighthart; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years in 2011. Also preceding her were her sisters, Phyllis Conger, Byrdeen Preston, Berniece Loyd and brother, Kevin Shepherd.
A Memorial Service will be held for Helen on Friday, September 13, 11am at Centerville Presbyterian Church, 4360 Central Ave., Fremont, CA 94536.
