Obituary For George Edward Landavazo
George Edward Landavazo Jr., 53, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in the early morning hours.
George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, family man, and friend whose strength, resilience, and love for his family carried through every chapter of his life. Even throughout his battle with cancer, George continued to fight with courage and faith. Though the disease took a toll on his body, it never took his love for his family or his belief in God. His strength during his illness inspired those around him and will never be forgotten.
George was born on December 10, 1972, in Hayward. He grew up in the Decoto neighborhood of Union City on Ninth Street, where he built lifelong friendships and memories.
George started as a Cement Mason after completing his Apprenticeship schooling in Pleasanton, and began working for the family concrete business, Landavazo Brothers, Inc., where shortly after he became a Pump Operating Engineer after being encouraged by his Father. Throughout his career, he helped build countless structures across Northern California. George worked for over 35 years before retiring in 2025. He took great pride in his work and remained deeply dedicated to his craft throughout his life.
George was ambitious, generous, selfless, and full of life. He loved spending time with family, listening to music, playing sports, and helping those in need. He was naturally athletic, had a smile that could light up a room, and carried a sense of humor that brought laughter to those around him. George often spoke about how much his family meant to him, and he showed that love every chance he got. He always made sure his family was taken care of and never hesitated to step up whenever someone needed help. Whether it was family, friends, or even strangers, George would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need.
George is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Mariaelena Landavazo; his children, Christian Noriega, Michele Membreno, and Marissa Landavazo-Perez; his two beautiful grandchildren, Elena Landavazo-Perez and Elijah Landavazo-Perez; his brothers, Matthew Landavazo, David Landavazo, and Derrick Landavazo; his sisters, Elaine Gonzalez and Liliam Landavazo; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
George was preceded in death by his father, George Landavazo Sr., and his mother, Madalene Nieves.
