Obituary For Emmanuel "Jack" L. Encinas
Emmanuel “Jack” Encinas June 23, 1947 - October 13, 2021 A resident of Union City, CA
Emmanuel Labayo Encinas transitioned from this world on October 13, 2021. During his 74 years on Earth, ‘Jack’ as he is known to all of his friends lived a full, simple life made of laughter, love, and positivity.
Jack was born in Gubat, Sorsogon in the Philippines on June 23, 1947 to Alejandro Encinas and Estrella Labayo . As a fun-loving youth, Jack was beloved as “Gubat’s favorite son” by ‘terrorizing’ his teachers and winning over the adoration of his fellow students. All his life, Gubat was always in his heart. When the people prospered, he prospered. When the people suffered, he suffered. He dedicated much of his efforts to make sure the people lived a life devoid of poverty and hardship by frequently sending clothes and money back home to his people.
In 1979, Jack married the love of his life, Rowena ‘Wena’ Rabuy in what everyone in the town considered the wedding of the century. Shortly after, Jack and Wena decided to plant their roots in the United States. As a loving husband, he cherished his wife, giving her what Wena can only describe as a ‘marriage from heaven’. During their life together, Jack was a loving father and best friend to his son, Paul Justin Encinas, working incredibly hard to create the best possible life for his family. It was abundantly clear that this was Jack’s proudest accomplishment, boasting about his family to anybody that would listen.
Jack was a beloved member of the maintenance staff for the New Haven Unified School District for over 20 years. Along the way, Jack found joy in his family, his friends, playing guitar, and most of all helping people less fortunate than him back in the Philippines. When he wasn’t at home singing to his wife, he could be found cleaning out slot machines in casinos all along Northern California.
Jack was a dedicated Catholic that honored his faith with gratitude, compassion, and humility. He is survived by his wife, Rowena, his son, Paul, and his daughter-in-law, Yvette. If you want to honor Jack, we have set up a GoFundMe account where all the proceeds will go to the St. Anthony of Padua Parish Scholarship Program which provides scholarships to college students from indigent families in Gubat.
In the end, Jack’s legacy was defined by the endless pursuit of just three things: good friends, good food, and an even better nylon string guitar. He really was just a simple guy.
