It is with a heavy heart that the family of Elena Abarca announces her passing on December 27, 2018 at Washington Hospital in Fremont, CA at the age of 67. She was born Elena Vinarao Mamauag on August 19, 1951 in the town of Cabagan, Isabela in the Philippines, the sixth of nine children born to Pablo and Severina Mamauag. Remembered for her generous spirit and love of family, she touched and helped so many lives as a registered nurse at East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital for over 40 years. She often traveled back to her hometown of Cabagan, thousands of miles away, using her time to give food and clothing to those back home. She lived a life passionate for travel and adventure with her brothers and sisters, and could often be found enjoying time shopping at Pai Gow tables. She is survived by her husband, Jun Abarca, her brothers and sisters, and countless nieces and nephews, all of whom will always remember her kind heart, generosity, strength, and strong bond of family and love. Viewings for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm with a Rosary at 5:30pm at Fremont Memorial Chapel at 3723 Peralta Blvd, Fremont and on Thursday, January 3, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm with a Rosary at 5:30pm and Vigil service at 6:30pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 starting at 11:00am at Holy Spirit Church at 37588 Fremont Blvd, Fremont. Burial will be at Chapel of the Chimes at 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward. Reception to follow at Doubletree Hotel, 39900 Balentine Dr, Newark.
