Don Nihal Tilak Kuruppu, of Alameda CA, formally from Sri Lanka, passed away suddenly last week. He was a tremendously loving father to his surviving family, Kim Kuruppu (son), Rosie (daughter in-law), and a doting grandfather to his grandsons, Aramis and Athos. He is also survived by his brother's family, Daya Kuruppu (brother), Nayana (sister in-law), Rajeev (nephew), Nishana (niece). Don was a devoted son to his parents who preceded him in death, Don Albert Kuruppu (father) and Prema Karunaratne Kuruppu (mother).

He was a 20-year veteran of the US Army, earning the rank of Sgt. 1st Class, and a longtime resident of Alameda. Don was a deeply caring individual whose passion for service to the US Army was also reflected in his chosen career path, working for Kaiser Permanente until his retirement, after being honorably discharged from the army. Don spent nearly every weekend with his grandchildren, Aramis and Athos, who were his joy and happiness. During their precious time together, he made sure the boys were always having fun and laughing when grandpa was around.

Don's joyful spirit and positivity will be greatly missed by his family and by the community of friends his sudden departure has left behind.
