Obituary For Constancia "Connie" Abad

Constancia "Connie" Abad celebrated her 84th birthday on December 6th. She was a vibrant woman who enjoyed gardening, watching her shows, and taking care of everyone, especially, her 4 grandchildren -- Alexander, Gavin, Atley, and Colin X. She was one of 7 siblings, raised in the Philippines, and was a dancer in her youth. Before she retired, she was a credentialed educator, teaching physics, high school math, electronics, and computer aided design & drafting, as well as an architectural engineer that expanded into a wide variety technical fields. Later, she taught engineering combining both careers into one.

She met and married Santiago in college and they traveled often, coming to the United States in 1971. They had a family which grew much bigger than their children -- Carla & Raul, Jordan, Cheryl, Mike, and Mireya -- with cousins, compares, nephews, nieces, in-laws, friends of their children and grandchildren and their families. She served as the family's center, welcoming all with open arms.

Constancia has gone in grace to meet God and left this world peacefully on December 15, 2019. May she rest in peace.

Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday, December 26, 2019 with a Vigil Service at 6:30 PM, Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 10:30 AM, St Anne's Catholic Church, 32223 Cabello Street, Union City.

Putting all those jokes aside, I came to love my son’s “mother-in-law.” We shared some of life’s most precious moments: “helping” to bring our grandchildren Gavin and Atley into this world; celebrating renewal of vows & a 50th wedding anniversary for Connie & Santiago; birthday parties; Father’s & Mother’s Day celebrations; picnics; train rides; Baptisms, First Communions; watching school plays/concerts; watching dance competitions—the list goes on. Connie may be the most generous person I have ever known. She made my world bigger and grander, and I miss her. Rest in peace, Connie.

Beautiful tribute given by Jamie Landicho during the funeral mass on 12/27/19: When I think of Auntie Cons, I think of the word ‘constant’. Because that is what she was…a constant in my life. A constant figure of kindness…of quiet strength…of the sweetest smile. A constant source of comfort and acceptance. She was always happy to meet a new face, open her home, and welcome them as family. Throughout my childhood, I had the privilege to travel and go on many road trips with her. During those trips I learned the art of patience and the joy of the experience; whether it was driving thru a redwood tree or walking thru a botanical garden in the rain. I can’t say I always exhibited patience, but I certainly learned the value. My favorite memories of her will always be sitting across a table…coffee cup in hand…and just being able to talk about anything at all. Sometimes serious, most of the time silly. And it didn’t matter if I saw her a month ago or if it had been years, she was a constant. A constant feeling of home…and of love. I will miss her generous smile and her sweet laugh the most. Rest in peace auntie.

Our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies go out to Compadre and the Family. Connie’s vibrance and warmth will always be remembered. Since our arrival in the States, we’ve had so many fond memories of Connie as Ninang and Comadre. You will always be a part of our family and in our hearts forever :two_hearts:

With her niece Divina and her daughter Kayla. Celebrating a graduation party. One of the many occasions Auntie Cons welcomed her house to us.
