Charlie Robinson West was the son of the late Oliver F. West and Annie E. Grace. He was a 1950 graduate of Timpson High School in East Texas. He served in the US Navy as SONAR Man that patrol the Strait of Formosa (Taiwan), the Sea of Japan, the Philippine Sea and the Korean Peninsula. He attended the University of Texas and received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He worked for NASA, BOEING, and Montgomery Ward. After 25 years of service at Montgomery Ward, he retired as the Regional Engineering Manager for the West Coast. In 1988 he bought his “retirement home” in Fremont, California. He enjoyed travel around the world and visited the seven continents. He enjoyed the state parks and the 50 state capitols. He was able to visit many presidential museums and libraries. Charlie loved horse racing; his yearly “to do” list was the Breeder’s Cup, the Kentucky Derby, and the opening of the race track in Sta. Anita and Del Mar. He once had a partnership with a filly in Southern California and said it was about, “20% making money, 30% breaking even, and 100% chance of having fun”. Charlie spent most of his lifetime in Fremont, California. He loved and enjoyed the weather in the Bay Area. All of his wishes were complete by that peaceful morning of October 11, 2022 in his retirement home.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn B. Das-West, and many family and friends. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his first wife Ernestine; son Charlie Jr.; one brother and two sisters.

Charlies 90th birthday and Celebration of life will be held on Monday, May 8, 6:00pm at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., in Fremont.
