Well my friend, Iâve ridden motorcycles with you and skied some pretty steep runs with you and while Iâve known of some of your health issues for a while now, I always thought you would overcome them and continue to be my friend and companion on these types of adventures for years to come. Iâm so saddened to hear of your passing. I know you will always be my friend and you will be missed.
Iâve known you to be extremely thoughtful and always enthusiastic in everything you did from social gatherings and sports to our mutual love of dogs. Iâve added a picture of you and Vicky at my 70th birthday party and a second photo of Portillo, who also enjoyed the party. Carol and I have thoroughly enjoyed out friendship with you and Vicky, Whiskey, Kona and Portillo.
Vicky, we send our love and we are here for you always and especially during this difficult period.

Brett and I have been kindred spirits since elementary school in Brentwood. Our lives have continued to cross well into our adult lives. We both shared a passion for skiing that started with trips to Killington with our moms dutifully driving us the 3 hours one way before we could drive ourselves. We so wanted to get our money's worth in this giant ski area that we would buy a sub and a drink the day before, store them in a fanny pack and eat our lunch on one of the long lift rides.
Brett and I both attended UNH but drifted apart for a while until I heard he did the exchange program to San Diego State. When I heard Brett had done this I knew I had to do it the next semester. It ended up changing the course of my life and career and for that I am forever thankful to him.
We went separate paths but were kept up to date by our common bond with Brentwood and our families who remained close. We caught up again in the late 90s where I heard that Brett also got into flying. This time it was him telling me that he always wanted to learn to fly after hearing about my flying adventures. I was grateful that I was able to be a small influence in his decision to pursue this passion and adventure.
This reminds me a beautiful poem for pilots that is somehow fitting as we remember Brett:
High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

My sincere condolences go out to Brett's family and friends. I went to UNH with Brett, lived in the same dorm as a freshman and sophomore, and spent a fun semester at SDSU where we went running together on occasion. I remember Brett as a kind, gentle person who always wore a smile. Peace to you, Brett.

I am deeply saddened to hear the news. Brett was a great friend to me. He was always willing to help me and others. I wish I could tell him how much our friendship meant. I know how much he loved Vicki and her family. Heaven just received a wonderful, caring person that I will always remember as a lifelong friend. I will miss our conversations about family, work, skiing and enjoying life. Quinn thomas
