Obituary For Augustine Cortez, Jr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Augustine Cortez Jr., who entered into eternal rest on May 16, 2026, at the age of 80.

Augustine was born on October 17, 1945, in Honolulu and spent much of his life in the East Bay, where he built a life centered around family, and love. A proud veteran of the Merchant Marines during the Vietnam War era, Augustine carried a strong sense of duty, resilience, and pride throughout his life.

He was a devoted husband to Linda Cortez and a loving father to Augustine Paul Cortez, Jade Ruiz, Austin Cortez, the late Paul Cortez, Augustine Cortez, and Lenora Cortez. He was also a cherished grandfather to Elicia Alcaraz, Nikita Alcaraz, Nicole Alcaraz, Jasmine Ruiz, Frankie Alcaraz, Jay-Lyn Alcaraz, Joshua Alcaraz, Austin Cortez, Kaila Cortez, Katia Cortez, Niah Cortez, Kaleo Cortez, Genevieve Cortez, Maxwell Cortez, and Victor Cortez, and a proud great-grandfather to 20 great-grandchildren.

Augustine was the youngest of his siblings and was deeply loved by his sisters, Loraine, Laverne, and the late Genevieve. He often joked about being a “momma’s boy,” wearing that title proudly because family meant everything to him. He treasured the love and bond he shared with his family throughout his life.

He had a lifelong passion for sports, especially boxing and football, and was a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers. Whether watching a game, sharing stories, or spending time surrounded by family, Augustine found joy in the simple blessings of life.

Above all else, Augustine’s life was rooted in love and faith. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, laughter, loyalty, and devotion to family. Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the loving arms of the Lord.

A funeral service and reception honoring Augustine’s life will be held at Fremont Memorial Chapel 3723 Peralta Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536. on May 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM
