Obituary For Arthur Arce Cervantes
Arthur Arce Cervantes, 74, longtime resident of Newark, went to be with our Lord peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025 surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Loreta & Benito Cervantes.
Born on September 20, 1950 in Pangasinan, Philippines, Arthur’s life was a testament to love, family, and perseverance. He had an adventurous spirit and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS Ranger CV-61 during the Vietnam War and was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran. After serving honorably, Arthur dedicated a long career working at the USPS, Oakland Distribution Center.
Arthur is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Elizabeth Padlan Cervantes, and together they built a life centered around their Catholic faith and devotion to God. He was a loving father to their 4 children and 3 sons-in-law, Christabelle (+ Alfredo Jr.), Lorelei (+ Michael), Catherine (+ John Phillip) and Arthur Jr., including their 11 grandchildren: Aris, Abiel, Angelle, Allec, Alijah, Isabella, Aidan, Tristan, Alyssa, Jacob, and Jacqueline.
“Papa Art” was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, ‘Ninong’ and friend, who was a constant source of inspiration to all. His legacy lives on because of his thoughtful and generous heart. Arthur will truly be missed. His kindness touched many and his memory will live on to those who knew him. To quote Papa Art, “Alone, we find solitude, together we find love…”
Visitation will be held August 27-28, 2025 at the Fremont Memorial Chapel in Fremont. His funeral mass will be held on August 29 at St. Edward Church in Newark. A military funeral honors and committal service will take place at Skylawn Memorial Park in Half Moon Bay. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow.
