Obituary For Antonio De la Cruz Del Rosario

Antonio “Tony” del Rosario was called home by our Heavenly Father on September 12, 2017.

Born on July 12, 1946 to Virgilio and Rufina del Rosario, Tony was the eldest of two sons and spent the first 27 years of his life in his home country, the Philippines. He grew up in Imus, Cavite, and came from a large family (his paternal grandmother Jovita had 11 kids!) and was the first grandchild on the del Rosario side. Being the oldest of what was eventually to become over 20 first cousins, he had no shortage of playmates! From the De la Cruz side, he had 6 first cousins and being loved by everyone.

He graduated high school from Del Pilar Academy in Imus, Cavite, and earned a degree in architecture from Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila.

In January of 1974, like many Filipinos, he immigrated to the United States in hopes of providing a better life for his family. He was sponsored by the family of his Auntie Viring and first lived in the San Francisco area. After landing his first job in San Francisco, wife, Flora, and daughter, Genevieve, joined him in the United States in September 1974.

His first job as Structural Draftsman at Nassau Bridge Detailers led him to most important jobs throughout his career such as Bechtel Corporation, Mckesson Engineering, and Lockheed Corporation.

His family started out in a modest apartment on Mission Street in San Francisco. In July 1975, son Geoffrey was born. Soon after Tony and Flora bought their first home on Farallones Street in the Oceanview neighborhood of San Francisco. As the family prospered, they were able to purchase a home in Daly City, followed by a move to Fremont where his two kids eventually graduated high school. The education of his children was very important to him and he helped ensure both also finished college.

Along the way, he met many lifelong friends whom he enjoyed traveling with their respective families, from nearby camping trips to faraway destinations. He was happiest and most content spending time with family and friends. He enjoys golf and playing scrabble!

Tony is a dedicated, hardworking, loving son, husband, father, grandfather, cousin, and a friend. Toward his later years, he simply described himself as “1happylolo”! We are going to sorely miss him, and will forever be in our hearts.

Tony was preceded in death by his father Virgilio, and brother Ernesto. He is survived by his mother Rufina, ex-wife Flora, daughter Genevieve and son-in-law Ian, son Geoffrey and daughter-in-law Kurstan, and grandchildren Allison, Lily, Ryan and Andrew. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to cancer research.
