Obituary For Adela Cardona Andaya

Adela was born on December 16, 1932 in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, to Antonio and Rosalia Cardona. Born the sixth out of eight children, she is greeted in heaven by her parents, 7 siblings, and her oldest daughter. Adela is survived by her son, youngest daughter, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, her sister, Araceli Ver, and many nephews and nieces. She was called home on December 30th, surrounded by her family. In 1953, she married Ernesto Vea, and had 3 children: Arthur, Ernestine, and Antoinette. After his untimely passing in December 1961, she went back to school, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and began teaching second grade. It wasn’t enough for Adela, and she wanted more for her family, so she made the brave decision to move her family to the US. Adela immigrated to the US in 1968. She was lucky enough to find love again, and in 1969 she married Pedro Andaya. Now a family of five, they lived life to the fullest, enjoying each other’s company with even more family and friends. Soon other familiar faces from home joined them in the US and a community was built. Adela was an extremely active member of the United Bacarreneos of America. She attended as many celebrations as she could, and was always the life of the party. She was very admired by her extended family, her community and made many, many lifelong friends. Adela and family resided in Daly City, where she worked for Pacific Bell for over 25 years before retiring and settling down in Union City. She enjoyed retirement, TFC, In-and-Out Burger, treats from Valerios, and rooting for the Giants and the Warriors. With sincere generosity, her home is welcoming and open to all. She always greeted you with a smile on her face. She was simply, Mom, Granny, or Mama Dela to her kids and grandkids. Family visits, birthdays, holidays and graduations are what she loved the most, and these events will never be the same without her. Christmas was undeniably the best, with her special stockings. One by one, we all waited patiently for her to call our name: Arthur, Arlene, AJ, Ariel, Ariana, Arya, Ernestine, Richard, Leesa, Mar, Rachel, Louie, Ninah, Alinah, Lil Louie, Mel, Rosar, RJ, Robert and Adela. So many fun family memories that will live on forever. Adela is, and will always be, the star and center of our family. The gates of Heaven are open and welcoming her with the biggest celebration in her honor. May she rest in everlasting paradise.
